Suomalaisilla on jostain syystä perinteisen tyylin kilpailut olleet mieluisampia ja vahvempia.
Yllättäen vapaan tyylin sprinttikilpailuja on määrällisesti tällä kaudella ollut eniten. Osa kuulunee erilaisiin toureihin osakilpailuna ja niihin myös yleishiihtäjät osallistuvat. Joillakin mailla hiihtäjät ovat erikoistuneet sprintteihin enemmän esim. Ranska.
Tässä alla taulukko viiden kauden eri kilpailumuodoista alkaen 2014-15 ja päättyen 2018-2019.
Tänä kautena on ensimmäistä kertaa ollut sprinttiviesti perinteisellä tyylillä, kun taas perinteisen sprinttikisoja on ollut kaksi vähemmän kuin aiemmin. Vastaavasti vapaan tyylin sprinttejä on taas tällä kaudella ollut selkeästi enemmän aiempiin vuosiin verrattuna.
Distanssimatkoilla perinteisen ja vapaan kisoja on ollut suurinpiirtein sama määrä 7-8.
Selkeästi on nähtävissä skiathlonin väheneminen, josta (laji) suuri osa urheilijoistakaan ei taida tykätä.
Onneksi perinteisen tyylin kisoja on vielä ollut 11 kertaa, mutta vapaalla on kisattu 18 kertaa. Mikä tulee olemaan jatkossa suunta? Tuleeko vapaa tyyli painottumaan vielä enemmän?
World Cups finales in Quebec City are held on the Plains of Abraham right in the middle of old town. In 2017, more than 60 000 people gathered to watch the athletes race. The action is condensed on the Plains, on Grande-Allée and on Place George V.
The organisation will do a tribute to Alex Harvey, who is a local star, on Sunday night.

“Mördarbacken” – Faluns signature hill is well known in the Cross Country community.
Before the WSC 2015 the course system was changed and developed, and now there is
the large and small “Mördarbacken”. For competitions 2019 the large will be used .

Holmenkollen National Ski arena is one of Norway's most visited tourist attractions. Since 1892 the arena has hosted competitions in Nordic skiing. In 2011 the FIS World Championships Nordic took place in the venue, and in February 2016 Holmenkollen was the host for the IBU World Championships Biathlon.
The courses and the cross country stadium in Holmenkollen are in use during the whole year for training and competitions for the top athletes as well as the sport club youngsters that love cross country skiing and biathlon.
The entire ski jump and arena was rebuilt before the FIS World Championships Nordic in 2011. The ski jump was designed by the Danish firm JDS Architects. Their design brings together all the amenities contained in the jump: rather than having a series of dispersed pavilions, everything from the judge's booths and the Royal family to the souvenir shop and the entrance to the museum are contained in one holistic diagram.
The jump is made out of 1000 tons of steel and raises about 60 meters in the air. The top is cut horizontally to accommodate a viewing platform with a panoramic view of Oslo and surrounding areas. How to follow
After Tour de Ski it's time for sprint again. This time Dresden is hosting the World Cup for the second time, the venue is located right on the banks of the River Elbe with the world-famous baroque skyline of Dresden serving as the backdrop of the track.
The team hotel, media facilities and venue are all located within 5min walking.
In summer, the venue hosts big concerts with up to 12.000 spectators and open air movies
The week after the World Cup, the stadium will host events for schools, a biathlon event, youth
athletes as well as Para Nordic athletes.

Iltalehti 2018
There has been 16 years, every year, white snow in area, but this year was different.
The organizers were quite busy trying to get man made snow on it's place. Like some skiers say the track is marked with snow. You can't get lost...
There will be sprint track 1,4 km and for distance 4x3,75 km for men and 3x3,3 km for ladies.
YLE 2018
Media followed the return of norwegian skier Therese Johaug to World Cup.
She was happy to start season after 2 years time. She is waiting to have hard comepetition with Charlotte Kalla and Krista Pärmäkoski on Sunday.
According YLE-sport Krista Pärmäkoski says: "She is welcome to compete again. She has had her punishment ja is really welcome. I hope, that people here in Ruka accept her and cheer on everyone. I'm excited to see where am i standing comparing to her in competition."
Maastohiihdon kilpailukalenteri on julkaistu jo toukokuun puolella ja kohta on aika taas alkaa katsella, milloin kisaputki alkaa.
Tänä vuonna suomalaisittain on TV-lähetysten osalta tulossa muutos, sillä lähetysoikeudet siirtyvät YLE:lle ainakin vuoteen 2021 asti. Ylen mukaan: "Silloin Ylen tarjoamaan talvilajien pakettiin kuuluvat hiihdon, mäkihypyn, alppihiihdon, yhdistetyn, lumilautailun ja freestylehiihdon maailmancup-osakilpailut Itävallan ja Sveitsin osakilpailuja lukuun ottamatta."
Maastohiihtokausi 201718 alkaa olla suomalaisittain paketissa. Jäljellä on vielä Taivalkosken SM-kilpailut ja toki muutamia massahiihtoja.
Maailmancupin pisteiden osalta vuosi näyttää seuraavalta.
Miehet
Tällä kaudella miehistä 18 (2016-17 17) pääsi maailmancupin pisteille. Distanssimatkalla pistesijoilla oli 9 urheilijaa (2016-17 10) ja sprintissä 12 (2016-17 12).
Paras rankisijoitus oli Ristomatti Hakolalla, joka oli sprintticupissa 5. Iivo Niskanen oli distanssimatkoilla parhaana sijalla 13.
Uusia nimiä olivat: Haarala, Mikkonen, Mäki ja Suhonen. Nuorten cupissa oli 4 pistettä saanutta, kun vuosi sitten oli vain yksi.
Naiset
Kauden osalta pisteille ylsi 10 naisista (2016-17 11). Distanssicupissa 9 (2016-18 7) ja sprintissä 7 (2016-18 9). Uusia nimiä olivat Piippo ja Saapunki.
Paras sijoitus oli distanssissa Krista Pärmäkoskella 4.
Mielenkiintoista triviaa on verrata parhaan suomalaisen ja norjalaisen ansioita maailmancupista tältä kaudelta. Kummatkin olivat maansa parhaita. Johannes Höstflot Kläbo (143007,90 €) kuittaa Iivo Niskasen (13753,29 €)10-1.
The Organizer says: "We have a feeling that this years venue of Svenska Skidspelen will be one of a kind. March 15-18, 2018 the worlds cross-country elite will put on a final show at Lugnet in Falun. They will compete in this seasons grand finale - FIS Ski Cross-Country World Cup Finals".

Holmenkollen skifestival offers a change for endurance skiers to show their capasity at end of season. Is Iivo Niskanen still as strong as in PyeongChang or will Poltaranin or Russian youngster Bolshunov and Norwegian skiers try to beat him? What about ladies? Is Krista Pärmäkoski still getting stronger or does Marit Björgen take the gold medal? It will be exciting weekend and in Program there are also Ski Jumping and Compined, but in cross country only mass start long distance competitions with Classic style 30 km W and 50 km M.
In Seefeld it has been falling down nearly 1 meter new snow during last days. Many times organizers have problems with lack of snow, but this time enough is enough.
Seefeld is host of the next FIS Nordic World Championships in 2019. For that reason a lot of
new infrastructure as well as reconstructions has happened the last 2 years. Seefeld now offers
fantastic Cross-Country tracks which lead 280 km through the Olympia region.
From this winter on it is possible to already train on the original World Championships tracks in the so called “Möserer valley”! Furthermore the Nordic Competence centre offers an additional base building with more and new wax cabins which can be also used during training camps.

Two weekends left before the Olympics 2018. Planica is hosting Cross-Country World Cup event for the second time in two years.
Nordic Center, which opened in December 2015 is fully operational and is hosting professional and recreational athletes all year round.
Several Cross-Country, Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping competitions were held in Planica during this time During the World Cup Planica will also host World Snow Day.
Planica is a candidate for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2023.
Dresden is hosting the World Cup for the first time and the Venue is located right on the banks of the River Elbe.

Dresden gives an important opportunity to athletes to show up their condition in Sprint competition before Olympics.
After short Christmas holiday skiers are heading to near the Alps again. First to Lenzerheide in Swizerland. The New Year is celebrated there with three competitions. Next place will be Oberstdorf in Germany also with two starts. On 6th January trucks and skiers are in Val di Fiemme Italy. Program This year offers 7 competitions; two sprints and four distances and finally climbing to Alpe Cermis.
